Taking the con to you

Hey all!

We know things are a little rough right now and we hope you're all staying as safe as you can be.

With all the conventions canceled for this year we decided to take the con to you! We've made a special demo build of our next game, DOGFIGHT, available for you to play at home. We figured a couch co-op shoot-em-up you can play together with up to four friends or family members, might just be what you need to spend an afternoon with your favorite shut-in people (kids, parents, pets, we’re not picky)

We really wanted to see you all play the game in person but we figure this is a pretty solid Plan B until we can see each other again.

The game is still pretty early in development as we've told you before. Please tell us what you think! Do you want to see the play the rest of it? What can we do to make this a must play for you and everybody you know? We'd love to get this game in your hands so the more of you who tell us they liked the games, the sooner we can get Dogfight on your plates for some more couch co-op fun!

You can download a zip file of the game FOR FREE for PC or Mac at the link below:

Send us your feedback at feedback@katsugames.com Remember, the more of you tell us they enjoyed the game, the sooner we can get the game finished!

Cheers and stay safe!

What's next?

As promised, it is time to reveal what Katsu has been up to these past few months. In 2020 we are returning to the world of Sausage Bomber with a new title. Introducing:

dogfight.png

“Dogfight: A Sausage Bomber Story” is a side-scrolling multiplayer retro shoot-em-up coming first to PC. If you visited the Katsu booth at Playthrough GC or ECGC in the past couple of years you may have played an early version of the game. Well, it’s officially in active development now alongside other projects!

In case you’re wondering why we seem a little slower than in previous years, our team is back to its roots working on NASCAR games for the fine folks at 704 Games. As you can imagine, that takes a huge chunk of our time. We’re still making progress on Dogfight and are committed to get it out so you can all play it.

It’s still early to talk about release date so if you want to stay updated, subscribe to our mailing list and be the first to know. Don’t worry, we don’t write often, no spam from us :)

Here’s to 2020 and more blog updates than once every 2 years! As always you can also find us on Facebook and Twitter. Drop us a line, we’d love to hear from you.

Warhammer: Doomwheel rolls into the night

Hi all,

Some of you may have noticed that Warhammer: Doomwheel is no longer listed in the app stores and may be wondering why. The long and short is our license with Games Workshop expired (as licenses do)

We had a blast with the game these past 3 years and we hope you did too.

YOU GUYS SMASHED EVERYTHING. THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO SMASH!

For all of you who bought the game, played the game, stopped by to say hello at cons or messaged us on social media, a huge thank you!

Massive thanks to Games Workshop for being, hands down, the best licensing partner we’ve had in our careers (and we had many) We greatly appreciate the chance to be a part of the Warhammer universe, even for a little while! We remain huge fans and look forward to the future of all things Warhammer.

What’s next for KATSU? A little too early to show but keep your eyes on this space in 2020 :)

One last time, in the immortal words of Bizkit “We must continue our great work! Yes-Yes!”

Cheers!

East Coast Game Conference 2018

Another year and another successful East Coast Game Conference in the books! Thank you to everybody who stopped by our booth to play Warhammer: DOOMWHEEL and get a first look at Sausage Bomber: Dogfight!

A special thank you to everybody who attended our talk about level generation for DOOMWHEEL: Making Ground! For those of you who asked for the slides, you can find them here (minus GIF to keep the file size under 20MB).

Congratulations as well to the winners of the Indie Prize: Super Gravity Ball by Upside Down Bird. We can't wait to hear about your adventures in London.

We are already looking forward to next year so, tell us, what would you like to hear us talk about in 2019? What talk should we submit for next year's ECGC?

Looking towards THE FUTURE!

Looking towards THE FUTURE!

See you at PAX EAST!

We have great news everybody! In case you haven't heard, Warhammer: DOOMWHEEL was selected to be in the Indie Showcase at PAX East from April 5th to April 8th!

We are super excited to make the trip to Boston next week and attend our very first PAX! We're even more excited for the chance to meet each and every one of you, so please don't be shy and come say "hi"! We're shy too but we really, genuinely, want to meet and talk to you!

We'll send updates from our 13hr road trip starting next Tuesday April 3rd! You can follow us along on Twitter.

So tell us, are you attending PAX East this year? What are you most looking forward to?

Casual Connect USA 2018

Another year starts and the waltz of events and conferences begins anew.

We are extremely lucky to have Warhammer: DOOMWHEEL as a finalist for the IndiePrize at Casual Connect USA 2018, and as always, we're in good company.

We'll be heading out to sunny Anaheim California on Monday for 3 days of intensive game-showing and people-meeting and we're sure it will be a blast. We're really excited about some of the people we'll get to meet there, including some names and companies that we're big fans of.

We're carrying laptops with us though, so we won't be completely out of the loop while traveling and we'll continue working hard on the games you know and love during the trip.

If you're in the Anaheim area, come say "hi" and maybe join us for a rid to Los Angeles and the deliciousness that is Daikokuya Ramen.

Sausage Bomber: The Recipe (ECGC 2017)

Here is the second session we gave at the East Coast Game Conference called "Sausage Bomber: The Recipe".

How we got Sausage Bomber done and launched while working full time jobs! Learn how we went about designing a simple game that would make us and players around the world laugh. From napkin sized design to the Android, iOS and Amazon app stores, lessons learned and concrete examples from a real life project on how to be a wiener… uh winner!

You can download the slides here.

If you enjoyed the presentation at the ECGC or the slides on this website, and feel like giving us a little love back, you can pick up Sausage Bomber in the iOS and Android app store. For a mere $1.99 you can get 128 levels of sausage bombing awesomeness that will make all your friends jealous. Plus, you'll be able to regale them with the tale of how the game was made now that you know :)

The Unsung Code (ECGC 2017)

Hi everybody!

Last week was the East Coast Game Conference at the Raleigh Convention Center. Since we're in the area, this is always a great opportunity for us to meet the fans, showcase our newest games and get a little something back by sharing our experience during sessions at the event.

This year we gave two talks. The first one was called The Unsung Code and you can see the description below.

Rendering is AWESOME! Audio is AWESOME! Gameplay is AWESOME! So let’s talk about everything else instead. We’ll cover all the unsung code that players will never know is there but can make the difference between smooth sailing and development hell. How to tackle the glamour-less “must do” in a way that leaves room for all the fun fluff, or risk the wrath of the bitter hordes of “braindead code that should only have taken five minutes to write”!

You can download the slides here.

If you got a chance to attend the session, or didn't but wanted to go through the slides, let me know your thoughts in the comments! I'd love to hear about your own experience with game flows or with other types of unsung code you'd like to bring to light!

ECGC D-1

Day-1 for the East Coast Game Conference! We are excited to be hosting a booth on the expo floor. Come check us out if you're in the area and be one of the first to experience Sausage Bomber on the big screen. We have limited edition Sausage Bomber buttons to give away if you give us a Like on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

If you're looking for insights, we are giving a talk about taking Boulder Dash from retro to modern and will be participating in the panel about the little known world of legal stuff (I hear there is a real name for this but it is a little known world after all). But you already know all that because we already updated our ECGC post about it.

See you all there!
